dtac takes to WeChat to support Chinese residents and long-stay visitors amid pandemic

  • To support contact-free services and social distancing, dtac’s Chinese customers can now buy top-ups, apply for promotions, and check their usage balance with the dtac WeChat Mini Program.
  • dtac also launched a new prepaid SIM for Chinese in Thailand with unlimited data and calls to China for free.

 

     January 28, 2021 – dtac is now the first mobile network operator in Thailand to offer prepaid top-ups via the WeChat Mini Program. Developed in response to COVID-19, the service will allow Chinese residents and long-stay visitors to use dtac services safely and contact-free. dtac also launched a new prepaid SIM exclusively for Chinese nationals residing in Thailand featuring unlimited data and free calls home to China. These initiatives reiterate dtac’s connectivity leadership position for Asian expatriates.


     Mrs. Sukannee Lertsukwibul, Head of Prepaid Market at Total Access Communication PCL or dtac, said, “Despite the COVID-19 situation preventing most Chinese tourists to visit Thailand as usual, dtac has not stopped improving our services. There are still many long-stay visitors and residents in Thailand and, due to the epidemic, we want to help them make safe transactions directly from their mobile device. With the WeChat Mini Program and a new prepaid SIM exclusively for Chinese nationals, it’s never been easier for them to stay connected while in Thailand.”

 

     dtac WeChat Mini Program enables Chinese customers to make online transactions in Thailand

     With 1.2 billion users worldwide There are 400 million average users of the Mini Program per day. WeChat is among China’s most popular messaging and online payment platforms. The dtac WeChat Mini Program will allow WeChat users to top-up their dtac prepaid numbers without leaving the app.

 

     The number of Chinese long stay visitors in Thailand was 184,820 in 2019 (according to the Department of Immigration). Chinese nationals have also continued to arrive in Thailand under the governments quarantine requirements. They will find the dtac WeChat Mini Program easy to use as the app is in Chinese and payment can be done by using WeChat Pay which WeChat users are already familiar with.

 

     The dtac WeChat Mini Program can be used to purchase new prepaid on-top packages, check usage balance, and check on-top package balance, new promotions, all the information, and privileges—without the need to visit a shop. Additional services will continue to be added.

 

     Introducing New dtac Prepaid SIM for Chinese Nationals

     dtac also launched a new prepaid SIM tailored for Chinese users in Thailand. Features are unlimited data, free calls to China via 00400 for 100 minutes, and free call in Thailand for 30 minutes. The SIM package is priced at only 299 Baht. A Chinese language hotline is available via the dtac Call Center for free at *800. Moreover, customers can follow news and information specifically aimed at Chinese nationals on dtac HAPPY in WeChat and Weibo platforms.
