The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) will be a responsible agency to represent the Thailand Pavilion over a six-month period of the expo. Under the theme “CONNECTING MINDS, CREATING THE FUTURE”,
Expo 2020 Dubai aims to inspire the next generation and join hands with others to improve the world, as well as to develop the connection between the people and organizations to be able to respond to the world and promote innovation under three sub-themes: 1. Opportunity, 2. Mobility and 3. Sustainability”

Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa mentioned that “the construction for Thailand Pavilion took place as per scheduled timeline and successfully met the international standards, UAE regulations and local laws for both conceptual idea and design. We are pleased to know that Thailand was one of the first five countries, of 190 countries around the world, to begin the construction”
“Thailand Pavilion is located in the Mobility zone, on a plot of 3,606 Sq.M., which is the biggest site that Thailand has ever had since the country participated in the World Expo over 150 years ago. The pavilion will represent the country with the ‘Mobility for the Future’ theme, to showcase Thailand’s digital capabilities, to draw international investors to Thailand through the concept of “Digital for Development.” This will be a good opportunity for the country on national branding to show to the world Thailand’s new perspective, apart from the country well known for her abundant natural resources and graceful culture, known as the Land of Smiles. Thailand is transforming to become a hub of digital development to connect everyone in Southeast Asia” said Dr. Nuttapon.
The President/CEO of depa also stated, “Thailand Pavilion represents Thailand’s mobility of the future. This also relates to our national agenda--Thailand 4.0, by integrating advanced technology to drive the country forward in all aspects. This exhibition aims to promote a positive image and showcase Thailand's potential in digital technology for worldwide recognition.

The project also aims to reduce disparity, provide opportunity, and propel the country onto the international stage. It also links to the sub-themes of Mobility, with an emphasis on the smarter and more productive movement that connects people, organizations and countries. This will create a better future. The goal of Thailand Pavilion is to attract 7% of the 25 million visitors to the expo, or around 1,750,000.
Dr. Nuttapon also shared more on architectural background of Thailand Pavilion. He mentioned the main color is gold, which represents the land of abundance, with the rich and natural heritage, as shown in every element of the building. The inspiration of the Thailand Pavilion’s decorations come from flowers (Luck flowers), interwoven around the pavilion like floral curtains. Moreover, the gable roof, a distinguished feature of Thai architecture, is applied at the entrance of the pavilion to express the delicacy and beauty of the Thai greetings, or ‘Wai’. A flower garland was chosen to be the logo to represent the Pavilion. Inside the building, four exhibition halls will be presenting different dimensions of Thailand, each driven by technology. It also showcases projects under the Royal Patronage of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej or King Rama IX, and the Royal Projects by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who have adopted technologies to establish the foundations of the country’s development in several aspects. Moreover, the Royal Projects of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, or King Rama X, have maintained and continued the concepts of previous royals.
Every step of the construction & design of the Thailand Pavilion was carefully planned to use less power and energy by integrating well-designed features and solar orientation, with natural shading to reduce the heat transmitted to the building.
World Expo is one of the biggest events in the world and ranked as the 3rd biggest event in the world after the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup. The expo will be hosted every five years. World Expo Dubai will be held from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.
