Synchrotron Light Research Institute Celebrates 10 Years of Success Behind Thailand’s Economy Exhibits Innovation from Synchrotron Light in the past decade.

Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization) takes part in economy and quality of life development with synchrotron in the past decade. In order to celebrate the participation in scientific research development and driving Thailand’s industry with synchrotron technology as well as to show the institute potential to thrive with Thailand’s industry in the future, the institute comes up with the idea to hold exhibition regarding a decade of Synchrotron Light Research Institute under the concept “Better Business with Science and Synchrotron Technology” (Make Tomorrow Better) on June 1st, 2018 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao in which her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening ceremony.

Dr. Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology said that “Synchrotron Light Research Institute has been serving work in synchrotron light and synchrotron technology as well as providing and transferring of synchrotron technology. Synchrotron Light Research Institute is a public organization under the supervision of Ministry of Science and Technology, aiming to promote research of synchrotron in order to enhance economy and develop quality of living to be equal to other countries as well as harmonising their goals with government's development plans, that is to say, conducting research which is beneficial to industry in order to drive the economy. As can be seen from the fact that, during 2013 - 2017, Synchrotron Light Research Institute had 54% growth in their service to industrial sector, created economic value added to Thailand’s industry over 7,800 million baht. It was also behind the growth of more than 50 SME businesses, especially, metal, ceramic, construction materials, polymer as well as food and drugs businesses. Synchrotron is mainly used for in depth scientific analysis of objects in atom and molecule level which can be used with solid, liquid and gas or even with plasma. That is why the synchrotron light source machine is considered to be fundamental scientific and technological structure which is essential for economic development and reflects science advancement of the nation”
Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization) was established under Royal Decree on Establishment of the Public Organization on September 19th, 2008, after the establishment of National Synchrotron Research Center which was founded in March 1996, having head office in Suranaree University of Technology, Nakhon Ratchasima
Over 10 years of providing service of synchrotron light and relevant techniques, the Institute has produced many productive works to industrial and economic development such as building collaboration of food and agricultural industry by setting out strategies to strengthen agricultural sector and stabilize food and energy sectors as well as setting out development plan which focuses on food industry in order to make Thailand becomes the center of development research, and to create new innovation to enhance value of agricultural products. Such collaboration has enhanced value for the economy over 3,000 million baht so far. For example, instant coffee which was developed by Southern Coffee company, by employing Food Processing Technology to create this instant coffee in closed container which is still as good as freshly roasted coffee and can be kept more than 3 months in room temperature. In cosmetic industry, the Institute has collaborated with Pan Rajdhevee Group Public Company Limited to develop Nano Sunscreen and conduct research on the absorbance of nano sunscreen substance on human skin as well as to show the efficiency, safety of product, and to build trust in terms of quality and safety of product which is the important step of dermatological and cosmetic industry. In material science sector, SCG Chemicals Company Limited has developed polyethylene resin which can tolerate of major circumstance changes to fulfil consumer’s demand. This development increases sales over 60 million baht a year.

Moreover, Synchrotron Light Research Institute has been serving the royal project of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn such as restoring Thai ancient glass which has been gone for over 200 years. The research team successfully produced this ancient glass in many colors with only 0.3 mm thickness. This ancient glass is now under testing process in real environment at Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Another aspect that the Institute gets involved is the development of quality of people’s lives, especially in blind people by developing affordable Braille displaying devices which can be domestically manufactured and decrease importation. In 2018, the Institute has developed this Braille device to 20 cells. This device helps decrease import cost more than 85,000 baht per device. Also, in order to celebrate the occasion of the auspicious fifth-cycle birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Institute has offered 200 Braille displaying devices to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with the intention to pass them to blind schools nationwide so as to facilitate those people who are visually impaired to the get access to information on computer.

Professor Wing Commander Dr. Sarawut Sujitjorn, Director of Synchrotron Light Research Institute talks about future plans of the Institute that “At the moment, the government has approved the synchrotron light source machine which provides 2.5 times more light energy and 1,000,000 times more density of luminous. It can support high level of science research and industry such as medical, pharmaceutical, food and agricultural, construction material, energy, archaeological including environmental aspects. The Institute aims to create innovation to fulfil both public and private sectors and to be part of driving Thailand’s economy by providing innovation to develop various industries to be equal to other countries and eventually becomes the leader in Asia and the world in the future”
And in the occasion of 10 years anniversary of the institute, the Institute is holding “A Decade of Synchrotron Light Research Institute” to celebrate the entering a new decade of the Institute on June 1st, 2018 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao. There will be many activities such as the exhibition regarding the Institute’s works, special talks from famous guest speakers such as Associate Professor Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant, Cherprang Areekul or Cherprang BNK48, Au Hareutai Mahngboonsri, Associate Professor Dr. Weerapong Paesuwan, Assistant Professor Dr. Akkharawit Kanjanaopas and mini concerts from many artists.
The Press conference of A Decade of Synchrotron Light Research Institute exhibition was also held on May 16th, 2561 at Vivarium Restaurant, Rama 4 road in order to offer opportunity for the press to perceive about initial idea of the Institute and the exhibition, presided and run by Dr. Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology and Professor Wing Commander Dr. Sarawut Sujitjorn, Director of Synchrotron Light Research Institute
