New Zealand classical musicians will perform in The Spirit of ASEAN.

New Zealand classical musicians Stella and Sally Kim will this month travel to Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste for a series of exciting events across the region. These include performances in Khon Kaen as part of the 60th anniversary of New Zealand-Thailand diplomatic relations, in Cebu as part of the 50th anniversary of New-Zealand Philippines diplomatic relations, in Dili as part of ‘New Zealand Week’, and at two events in Kuala Lumpur.

In Bangkok they will perform the world premiere of Narongrit Dhamabutra’s ‘The Spirit of ASEAN’ with the Pro Musica Ensemble.

“New Zealand is a strong supporter of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community through activities like the New Zealand Prime Minister’s Fellowships for ASEAN and the ASEAN Young Diplomats Study Tour to New Zealand.  Through this visit by two of New Zealand’s leading young musicians to three ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste, the New Zealand government hope to foster further cultural links between New Zealand and the region and among ASEAN countries”, says New Zealand Ambassador to ASEAN Stephanie Lee.
Violinist Stella Kim is completing her Masters of Music in violin performance at the University of Auckland, and cellist Sally Kim is currently undertaking her Bachelor of Music at the University of Auckland.  In 2013, as part of ‘The Trinity Trio’, they won the Pettman/TOSL (Royal Overseas League) Chamber Music Competition.
