#MoreThan 200 million customers are now connected to Telenor

Bangkok, January 8, 2016 - Telenor Group’s President and CEO, Sigve Brekke, today reiterated the company’s commitment to bringing internet for all, while marking the milestone of 200 million mobile subscribers across Asia, Europe and the Nordics.
Telenor Group, major shareholder in dtac, is present in 13 markets across Asia and Europe. As of the third quarter 2015, Telenor Group’s six Asian operations generated more than 50 percent of the group’s total revenues and Norway and the rest of Europe about 20 percent each.  Telenor Group has added more than 170 million subscribers in the past decade.
“Many in Telenor can remember reaching one million subscribers – a once-historic milestone. Since then, the world has changed dramatically and with it, the role of the mobile phone. Today, Telenor is in the hands of more than 200 million people from Thailand to Norway. Telenor´s early explorers of the 1990s aspired to bring the benefits of mobile communications to everyone, but they could hardly have imagined the impact we witness now. Today, our vision goes beyond putting a phone in every hand. We envision an internet for all, and with it all the opportunities that a digital life brings”, said Sigve Brekke, President and CEO of Telenor Group.
As the world evolves to view connectivity as a basic necessity, Telenor Group will continue its work in enabling connectivity for all.  At the same time, Telenor is exploring new ways to sustain growth, capture customers' attention and create value for them.
Commenting on the company’s ambitions for Thailand Sigve Brekke said “Telenor Group, through its ownership in dtac, has been present in Thailand for 15 years and we remain committed to the realization of a digital Thailand with internet for all. dtac is an integral part of Telenor's portfolio with a strong position in one of the highest growth markets. As we move from traditional voice and data to digital services, Telenor Group will continue to empower dtac to provide high-quality services to its customers throughout Thailand”.
Lars Norling, CEO of Total Access Communication PLC. or dtac, said “dtac is in a strong market position and will be able to leverage our current spectrum portfolio to offer competitive 4G services in the years to come. We continue to execute on our strategic direction to become the leading mobile Internet provider in Thailand. Our network improvement and 4G services on 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz will be promoted to improve network perception and build up 4G market. Clarity on spectrum allocation is critical to the realization of a digital Thailand, and we encourage the regulator to establish a clear roadmap for utilization of spectrum including planning for auctioning of more licenses in the 1800MHz band along with the 700 MHz, 850 MHz and 2600 MHz bands”.
