“Jurin” organizes the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2021 – 2022, expected to stimulate the economy for Chinese New Year of more than 100 million baht from 3 – 7 February 2022

On February 4, 2022, Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce opened the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2021-2022 reinforcing the image of Chanthaburi as “The City of Gems”, is expected to stimulate spending during Chinese New Year, attracting foreign buyers to participate in business negotiation activities, both on-site and online, expecting to generate spending for more than 25 million baht both within the festival and export sector. 

The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT, together with Chanthaburi Province, Chanthaburi Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), Public and private sector, organizes International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2021-2022 under the concept of Chanthaburi: City of Gems, to reinforce Chanthaburi Province to become the “City of Gems” during 3 – 7 February 2022 at the Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Center, KP Jewelry Center and Srichan Road Gems Market, Chanthaburi Province. 

The festival aims to stimulate the economy, to build confidence in buying gems and to be a platform for Chanthaburi Province, a province in the Eastern region of Thailand, and entrepreneurs from all over the country, to present quality gems and jewelry products at manufacturer’s price to consumers. It is expected to generate income from both gem and jewelry trade, including tourism for Chanthaburi province of more than 100 million baht. 

In addition, GIT has also set up a strategy to expand international markets by joining forces with the Gem and Jewelry Traders Association of Chanthaburi in organizing business matching activities, sponsored by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB and the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, inviting potential target buyers, both domestic and international. The business negotiations are held in a hybrid style, which allows buyers to discuss business with entrepreneurs at the event or via online (Online Business Matching: OBM), it is expected to generation an instant purchase value of at least 25 million baht. 

There are more than 300 booths to showcase and sell products from both Thai and foreign entrepreneurs. Visitors will find gems and jewelry products and products related to the industry, such as raw gems, cut gems, jewelry, other raw materials, jewelry machinery and equipment including packaging, which covers all sectors in the jewelry industry. 

The event also highlights the exhibition of the finest gemstones selected from all over the world “The GIT’s Enchanting Ruby & Sapphire Awards” a demonstration of gems cutting, hand carved metal, carving with a pattern cutter, plating, polishing jewelry, applying cold-hot enamel to jewelry and alphabet and symbols laser engraving by the Thai Goldsmiths Association. There are also seminar activities on marketing, online commerce, and design, under the topic “From Design to Online Jewelry in the New Normal Era” and Gems Tour, an educational excursion where participants will visit traditional mining and learn local wisdom about gemstone burning and cutting. 

Moreover, GIT also organizes a Mobile Lab for gem and jewelry inspection by experts, to build confidence for buyers and sellers. The festival is held during Chinese New Year and the Khitchakut Mountain visiting Festival. It is expected to stimulate the gem and jewelry trade, as well as to encourage tourism in the province. Therefore, everyone is invited to join the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival during 3 – 7 February 2022 at Chanthaburi Province. A shuttle service is provided for travelling between venues, and most importantly, the event and all activities are free of charge.
