SENA makes a new move to enter the solar rooftop business through strategic partnership with global players in the Solar industry to develop 5 megawatt over the next 12 months.

Thailand -16 June 2015 - Sena Development Plc (SENA), a leading property developer, announced its landmark partnership with First Solar, a US-based company and the world’s leading solar solutions provider by market capitalization, and Confidante Capital, a leading private equity firm, to develop the solar rooftop business in Thailand. Their goal is to own and supply 5 megawatts of solar power systems to homeowners over the next 12 months.
Dr Kessara Tanyalakpark, SENA’s executive director, is confident that this promising growth opportunity in the solar rooftop business can complement the company’s core property development business. The expansion will provide chance for the company to grow revenue and develop its growth sustainability.
SENA, ConfidanteCapital, a leading private equity investor in the solar business, have signed an agreement with First Solar, who will be the exclusive module supplier as the company expands into the PV rooftop market by leveraging its extensive knowledge of home owner network in the Thai property business.
SENA has more than 30 years of experience in property development and the solar rooftop expansion will strengthen the company’s strategic positioning in housing development while generating additional income for investors and shareholders.
“We will install solar modules on rooftops and create more values for homeowners, who can generate electricity to use inside the houses and supply to the national grid.
Moreover, SENA have “360-degree” after sales service for its customer and help arrange financial support for those who want to install solar rooftops.” Dr Kessara said.
Dr Kessara said this business concept is not new but created from the “customer trust is its pride” philosophy of Sena Development Plc. From this philosophy, the company has its mission to build and look after houses as value-added assets for customers. Building added values for the houses will start from the land purchase, the location selection, to the creation of housing environment, “360-degree” after sales service and now the solar module installation of house rooftop is also a factor to help add value for customers in SENA’s housing projects.
Meanwhile, the solar rooftop installation will help SENA to generate steady revenue as similar as the company’s other rental business activities. Its shareholders will then be confident in the company’s growth outlook.
Currently, the company began installing solar rooftops for houses in some of its housing projects and it expects to generate extra revenue from the sales of 750 kilowatt of electricity generated from solar rooftops in the second quarter of this year. During the beginning stage, SENA forecast to have extra profits of 6 million baht a year, a good start for the company to diversify a source of income and build a strong revenue base for the future.
“We are studying a proper business model with our two strategic partners to provide the solar business. It has potential to provide solar rooftops to our home customers and other developers who develop detach housing projects. Currently, we have talked with more than 100 housing projects. We have plans to develop six new housing projects in 2015,” Dr Kessara said.
“We are excited by the opportunity to collaborate with Sena Development Plc. in Thailand”, said, Won Park, First Solar’s Regional Director of South East Asia. “Our increased module efficiency, coupled with our thin-film technology's real-world yield advantage when compared to crystalline silicon PV, results in lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for our customers.”
With over 10 GW of capacity installed worldwide, First Solar delivers bankable PV energy solutions that maximize the value of the customers’ PV investment while minimizing their risk.
Sopon Asawanuchit, Managing Partner at ConfidanteCapital, a leading private equity firm focusing in the Solar business, is confident in SENA’s business potential. With more than 30 years of property business experience, SENA will develop more strength from the solar rooftop expansion and its partnership with First Solar ,will gain more trust as First Solar is globally recognized by many international companies and investors such as Apple Inc and Berkshire Hathaway of Warren Buffett, who chose it to supply, construct, manage and maintain its Topaz Solar Farm, the world’s largest solar power station.
Confidante Capital is ready to provide financial supports for SENA to ensure that the solar rooftop project move forward smoothly. The Thai government recognizes the importance of the Solar Rooftop industry and plan to provide strong incentives to the support the industry. We are confident that SENA and First Solar, which have unique strengths that complement each other, is well positioned to become a successful player to capture this attractive growth opportunities.” he said.
