during 10-15 April 2018 at King Power Rangnam
BANGKOK, 11 April 2018 – King Power Group together with Ministry of Tourism and Sports today celebrate the Grand Opening of the inaugural KING POWER SONGKRAN RANGNAM NAKARA – Bangkok’s first state-of-the-art Thai Water Festival that will be held during 10-15 April 2018 marking the celebration of traditional Thai New Year. Held under the concept ‘Contemporary Thai,’ the 6-day event showcases the first floating market in the center of Bangkok and Thai old town reflecting the beauty and charm of Thainess, Thai tradition and Thai culture. Pay homage to the 200-year-old Buddha from Abhaitayaram temple from early Rattanakosin era, savour famous Thai dishes from around the country and enjoy variety of Thai games, DIYs and fun activities.
The Grand Opening event held on April 11, 2018 at 13.00hrs at Fountain Square, King Power Rangnam is presided by Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sports and welcomed by Mr. Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Chief Executive Officer, King Power Group and Thai socialites including Parva Nakasai, Saranpak Penchart, Natprapa Choonhavan, Pimm-payap Srikarnchana, Lisa Jira, Pink Jira, Jarospan Svasti Na Ayudhya and Siranuch Rojanasthien.
Mr. Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Chief Executive Officer, King Power Group said King Power Songkran Rangnam Nakara to be held during 10-15 April 2018 is conceptualized by traditional Thai culture and Thai tradition with a modern twist. Aimed to be held yearly and listed among Thailand’s national tourism event agenda, this event will ideally encourage both Thai and overseas tourists to travel to Bangkok more in April especially during Songkran.
Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sports said Ministry of Tourism and Sports sees the importance of preserving Thai tradition and therefore, we joined hands with King Power Group to keep supporting and encouraging Thai people to be a part of sustaining Thai culture. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is planning to input King Power Songkran Rangnam Nakara into Thailand’s annual national tourism agenda.
The state-of-the-art Water Festival will be displayed through contemporary Thai landscapes and architectures using Thai color pantones such as Red Dangchad, Yellow Ginger, Green Agasta and Gold Rongthong portraying the true identity and value of Thai culture. The 3,000 sq.m. event will be presented through 5 main zones including 1) Temple zone – presenting Thai culture ie. Sprinkling water on sacred Buddha images and building Chedi with sand 2)  Market zone – famous Thai food carts and floating food boats 3) Field zone – featuring Thai rituals and beliefs 4) Garden zone – showcasing many traditional Thai dances and performances and 5) House zone combines 4 regions together; North, South, Central/West and North-Eastern.
King Power Songkran Rangnam Nakara targets to draw more Thai people to travel inbound and increase the numbers of overseas tourists. The event’s highlights include the first floating market in Bangkok, 4-region performances, Thai Food, and cultural parades. Visitors can sprinkle water over the 200-year-old Buddha from Abhaitayaram temple from early Rattanakosin era for holy blessings.
Enjoy a variety of entertainment from leading artists and witness the first Miss Songkran ‘Mahothorndhevi’ procession featuring 6 different leading actresses including Kimberley Anne Woltemas, Gun Napat, Kang Vorakorn, Paradise Bangkok (10 April), Taew – Natapohn Tameruks, Manohra Paisan Kunnu, SB Five (11 April), Poo-Praya Lundberg, Soontaree Vechanont, Lanna Commins (12 April), Bella- Ranee Campen, Sundaraporn Band, BNK48 (13 April), Kwan-Usamanee Waitayanon, Krist Perawat, Singto Prachaya (14 April) and Mint-Chalida Vijitvongthong, Conversation Thailand (15 April) dressed in a Ayudhya-inspired Thai costume made with Gold brocade Thai Silk, two-shouldered Sabai made with Royal Court Brocade, Full regal attire and ornaments under the concept Explore Endlessly and so much more.
Thai and overseas visitors are welcomed to dress in contemporary Thai costumes during 10-15 April 2018. Opening hours 11.00 – 20.00hrs at King Power Rangnam.
