     Bangkok, July 7, 2015 – Panasonic, an industry leader in reliable and innovative mobile computers since 1996, has expanded its ToughBook and Toughpad range of rugged notebooks and tablets by launching two rugged handheld tablets including the Toughpad FZ-E1 and Toughpad FZ-X1 as well as semi-rugged Toughbook CF-54 in Thailand. The company has also recently established its first configuration center in Malaysia with an aim to fuel Panasonic’s business growth in the ASEAN region.

     The new Toughpad FZ-E1 and Toughpad FZ-X1 tablets represent a significant expansion of Panasonic’s Toughpad line, the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of enterprise-focused tablets. The Toughpad FZ-E1, powered by Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld, and the Toughpad FZ-X1, running the Android™ 4.2.2 operating system, are five-inch enterprise-class handheld tablets — with voice and data connectivity — designed for mission-critical mobile workers. While the Toughbook CF-54 represents the thinnest and lightest semi-rugged PC in its category.

     The Rugged, Secure and Enterprise-Ready: Toughpad FZ-E1, FZ-X1 and Toughbook CF-54
     With the broadest range of configuration options available in their class, industry-leading reliability and enterprise-grade feature sets, the fully-rugged Toughpad FZ-E1 and Toughpad FZ-X1 are ideal tools for a host of usage scenarios, including delivery and routing, inspections, inventory management, field service and sales, work order management, public safety evidence collection and facility management. They are purpose-built to improve efficiency and productivity for mobile professionals in logistics, warehousing, utilities, retails, telecommunications and defence industries.

     The Toughpad FZ-E1 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) processor while the Toughpad FZ-X1 features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro (APQ8064T) processor.
     The rest of the specifications of the new Panasonic Toughpads are identical.  The devices’ numerous unique enterprise-grade features include an OS-based enhanced security features; a 5-inch HD (1280x720 pixels) display; 2GB of RAM; 32GB of built-in storage; supports expandable storage via microSD card; 3G; Wi-Fi; Bluetooth; GPS; HDMI; noise cancelling and dual front speakers; sunlight-readable; anti-reflective HD (1280x720) 10-point capacitive multi touchscreen that works even with heavy gloves or in pouring rain; an 8-megapixel rear camera with flash; an 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera; a 6200mAh hot swappable battery which lasts up to 14 hours and configuration options such as an integrated 1D/2D barcode reader and attachable magnetic stripe reader which allow enterprises to customize the ideal tool for their workforces.
     The Toughpad FZ-E1 and Toughpad FZ-X1 are also the first devices in the Toughpad® line to offer optional voice connectivity. They will be available with a micro SIM slot and 3G data. The devices are fully sealed against dust and are submersible in up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. They boasts an operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C and is also tested for resistance to impact, shock, vibration, altitude and extreme humidity.
     Created for workers in the automotive diagnostic industry and field service workers specializing in mainly indoor repairs and maintenance, the semi-rugged Toughbook CF-54 comes with a unique ‘honeycomb’ design for improved strength. It features 14-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display and is powered by fifth generation Intel Core i5-5300U vPro Processor (3 MB cache, 2.3GHz up to 2.9GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology). It will be available with 4GB and pack with 500GB of hard disk. The Windows 8.1 Pro-based Toughbook CF-54 offers a range of integrated options such as dedicated GPS, mobile broadband with satellite GPS, antenna pass-through, and insert-able and contactless SmartCard readers. It offers an optional second battery with hot-swap without the need to shut down or hibernate. The new Toughbook also offers dual drives. Much like the new Toughpads, the Toughbook CF-54 meets the MIL-STD-810G standard.
Moving Forward to Fuel Business Growth
     According to Panasonic’s recent research, the opportunity for rugged mobile computers - tablets, notebooks and handheld computers – is expected to grow to $300 million by 2018. The majority of demand is concentrated among rugged handheld devices.  
     With an increasing market opportunity and demand among users, Panasonic has established their first configuration center in the ASEAN region located in Malaysia in April 2015. The center will provide end users with adding options such as LAN port, USB, smart card reader, fingerprint reader, dedicated GPS, etc. To date, Panasonic currently runs 5 configuration centers around the world.
      “The Toughpad FZ-E1, FZ-X1 and Toughbook CF-54 are engineered to deliver performance, security and reliability in extreme operating environments. We believe the launch of the new products will enhance our portfolio catering to the enterprise segment. We aim to increase our revenue in the rugged IT devices category this year by 200%” Sathip concluded.
