‘MILO’ invites Thai kids to show their futsal prowess at ‘MILO Futsal Champion 2015’ – now open for registration nationwide

Bangkok (13 May 2015)Nestlé (Thai) Ltd.’s MILO Beverage and MILO Breakfast Cereals today announced the start of the MILO Futsal Champion 2015 tournament in partnership with the Department of Physical Education and the Office of the Basic Education Commission under the Ministry of Education.  Teams throughout Thailand are invited to apply by 13 July 2015 for the qualifying rounds that are due to start on 31 July, this year.  The winning team in the 13-15 year-old category will have the special honour of receiving a trophy bestowed by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The tournament, in which teams of youngsters compete for scholarships worth more than Bht 600,000, aims to encourage kids and teens to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.  It also serves as a platform to inspire local youngsters to stay fit and develop healthy breakfast habits such as eating wholegrain cereals and drinking nutritious and delicious beverages that contain milk as a key ingredient.
The tournament also serves as a great recruitment opportunity to find the futsal stars of the future from around the country.
Over 700 teams have already entered the competition this year making it the biggest national futsal tournament, ever, for 7-15 year-olds.  It is also the only futsal competition that is open to primary school children, nationwide.
The tournament’s kick-off announcement ceremony, held at CentralWorld, was presided over by top Nestlé executives, including Mrs. Audrey Liow, Chairwoman & CEO for Nestlé Indochina, Mr. Chaiyong Sakulborrirug, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd.’s Business Executive Manager - Dairy and Adult Nutrition Business Unit, Mr. David Carter, Country Business Manager – CPW Indochina, Ms. Cruawan Varunpaichit, Head of Ready-to-Drink and Mr. Eugene Chan, Communication & Marketing Services Director.   They were joined by Mr. Chutchai Wongbangpo, Director, Sport Regional Division, Department of Physical Education, and Mrs. Napa Pannoi, Director of Student Sport Development Group, Bureau of Student Activities, Office of the Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education.
Also present were a host of stars and celebrities from Thailand’s sports community, including top sports guru Dr. Charnwit Polcheewin, legendary national football players ‘The Tuk’ Piyapong Pue-on and ‘Leesaw’ Teeratep Winothai, famed forward from the national team ‘Weir’ Sukollawat Kanaros, and Hun ‘The Star’ Isariya Patharamanop, along with the winners of last year’s competition.

The MILO Futsal Champions 2015 is divided into four age-groups: 7-8 year-olds, 9-10 year-olds, 11-12 year-olds, and 13-15 year-olds.  This year, for the first time ever, teams in the 13-15 year-old age group will compete for a trophy bestowed by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.  Teams also compete for scholarships worth over             Bht 600,000.  The winners in all age groups will train with experts in the “MILO Futsal Camp” to lift their futsal skills to the next level.  Starting from 31 July, qualifying rounds will take place as follows: in the central region at the Grand Soccer Pro Stadium on Soi Sukhonthasawad 28, in Bangkok; in the northern region, at the MR Soccer Stadium in Chiang Mai; in the northeastern region at the KS Soccer Stadium in Khon Kaen; and in the southern region, at the Arena Soccer Stadium in Surat Thani.
Mr. Chutchai Wongbangpo, Sport Development Director, Department of Physical Education, said, “The Department of Physical Education is very pleased to be co-host this excellent competition which provides youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talents, develop their sports skills, as well as acquire valuable competition experience at an early age.  It’s great that the competition covers primary school children and offers them intensive training with national-level coaches.  This is a wonderful way to elevate the standard of sports in the country.”
Mrs. Napa Pannoi, Director of Student Sport Development Group, Bureau of Student Activities, Office of Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education, said, “The Office of the Basic Education Commission admires MILO for their solid commitment to youth sports in Thailand.  Regularly playing sports, coupled with a proper and nutritious diet can ensure age-appropriate growth in children so that they grow up to be well-rounded adults.”
‘Weir’ Sukollawat, an actor and an avid sportsman, said, “I am really happy to see so many youngsters participating in sports and that MILO attaches importance to the development of Thai children.  I was lucky that my parents knew how important it is to eat a nutritious breakfast and to drink beverages with milk.  That’s why I grew up strong and healthy.  I urge all youngsters to take care of their health by beginning the day with a nutritious breakfast and really look forward to a record number of participants in this year’s competition.”
Hun ‘The Star’, a popular singer, said, “I’ve always loved sports and also given high priority to having a good breakfast.  Even if I have a tight schedule, I always find time to eat an easy-to-prepare breakfast of nutritious whole grain cereals, and recommend all young athletes to do the same.  Make it a habit to have a good breakfast.  Eat all the five food groups, never miss breakfast in the morning, and make sure you have sufficient rest before matches to ensure full physical and mental readiness.”
